Carfraemill is a popular place to come for High Tea and we are delighted to be carrying on this great Scottish tradition. We offer some of our favourite hot dishes - like homemade steak pie, haddock 'n' chips and lasagna - followed by beautiful scones and homebaking. We welcome small tables as well as large groups. Please note that pre-booking is required.
If you've never heard of it, High Tea is a wonderful Scottish eating tradition. The classic high tea is irresistible and features a tasty (but simple) hot savoury dish followed by scones, cakes, other home bakes and cups of tea. It's traditionally served in the late afternoon or early evening and is a delightful mix of dinner with the kind of home baking that's often associated with afternoon tea.
Our High Tea menu is traditional, features Scottish Borders produce and, we are delighted to say, comes highly rated. All items on the menu are homemade, with many of the recipes having been passed down through the generations.
We serve our Scottish Borders High Tea every day of the week, and any time between 12 noon and 7pm. It costs £17.50 per person (£15 for groups of 20 or more). We ask that you always pre-book your table. Please get in touch on 01578750750 or send us a message.
We welcome families - High Tea is an ideal way to round-off a day trip to the Scottish Borders or Edinburgh. We have high chairs, a toy corner and plenty of colouring-in to keep the little ones going. We can offer a kids version of the menu we can guarantee they will enjoy the experience as much as the adults in your group!
We also serve Afternoon Tea. It's a lighter meal than High Tea with sandwiches and sausage rolls as the savoury element, and the same scones and home bakes to follow.
